GPA Calculator
Pick the letter grade and credit value for each course to get your weighted grade point average on a 4.0 or 4.3 scale.
How GPA is calculated
Each letter grade has a point value. Multiply that value by the course credits, add up all the results, then divide by the total credits. A 4-credit A- counts more than a 3-credit B+, which is why it is called a weighted average.
Letter grade to grade points
| Letter | 4.0 scale | 4.3 scale |
|---|---|---|
| A+ | 4.0 | 4.3 |
| A | 4.0 | 4.0 |
| A- | 3.7 | 3.7 |
| B+ | 3.3 | 3.3 |
| B | 3.0 | 3.0 |
| B- | 2.7 | 2.7 |
| C+ | 2.3 | 2.3 |
| C | 2.0 | 2.0 |
| D | 1.0 | 1.0 |
| F | 0 | 0 |
Scales differ between schools
Many Canadian universities use a 4.0 or 4.33 scale, but some use 9-point (York), 12-point (McMaster) or percentage systems, and Quebec CEGEPs use the R score. Always check your school’s official conversion table. Our guide how to calculate your GPA explains the differences.
